Ben’s Bar Mitzvah Rehearsal: November 7, 2025 Ben’s rehearsal at Beth David took place on one of those November days that seems to be sponsored by rain. We still managed a few photos outside, which felt a little like boating weather but we persevered. Ben was in great form, just hanging out and waiting for things to begin. I photographed his sister a few years ago so the whole thing felt like déjà vu in the best way.  We grabbed some family photos before the grandparents and cousins arrived, then headed in for our customary Torah shots. And the rain never showed up. Well played everyone. Mazel tov.   The Story of Ben’s Bar Mitzvah Rehearsal: Selected Photos: HERE All the Photos: HERE

Hannah’s Bat Mitzvah: October 25, 2025 I met Hannah and her family at Holy Blossom, which turned out to be the first of two very special days with this delightful crew. Hannah was spectacular. We kicked off the rehearsal with a little adventure around Holy Blossom. Now, to be clear, this might just be my favourite place in Toronto to photograph a Mitzvah. There’s so much variety, those huge bright windows streaming in light, the sweeping stairs, the pillars, the corridors, the cozy corners and grand open spaces. It’s a photographer’s dream, and of course, we were going to make the most of it. Hannah and I wandered around with plenty of enthusiasm, soaking up every bit of that magic light. We started indoors, then stepped outside, and eventually brought in the rest of the family. Mom, dad, and little brother joined in for the fun, and before long we were down in the sanctuary for the classic Torah photos. Once those were done, we wrapped up outside by recreating her parents’ wedding photos on the steps of Holy Blossom.  So nostalgic, a full-circle moment and a perfect finish. Fast forward a few days, and we were back at Holy […]

Lucas’s Bar Mitzvah: October 24, 2025 I was back at Morton’s Steakhouse on University for another mitzvah dinner. I’ve been here before, and my memory served me well, it’s dark, really dark, but only the lighting. The vibe was bright and buzzing, because Lucas’s family was there to celebrate his Bar Mitzvah. This dinner followed the morning ceremony. Lucas and I took a quick walk outside as the sun slid down and the city started to unwind. We grabbed a few photos in and around Morton’s, then brought in the rest of the family for portraits across the street and down the block. We moved fast and managed to squeeze in the extended family shots just before the sun vanished completely. Once the photos were wrapped, it was time to head inside for some schmoozing, mouthwatering hors d’oeuvres, blessings over the challah, a few heartfelt speeches, and finally, a proper Morton’s feast. Mazal Tov, guys. Way to go.   The Story of Lucas’s Bar Mitzvah: Selected Photos: HERE All the Photos: HERE

Max’s Bar Mitzvah: October 19, 2025 Max’s Bar Mitzvah was back at one of my favourite and always-anticipated spots, the Richmond Hill Golf and Country Club. I love this venue, especially when the sun is shining, the air is crisp, and fall is showing off. Lucky for us, that’s exactly how the day played out.  I grabbed a few shots of Max outside while we waited for our courtesy golf cart to whisk us down into the meadow. The first set was our “urban” series, brick walls, big smiles, and the whole immediate family. Once we hit the meadow, things turned “rustic.” We got the best of both worlds, with plenty of walking, chatting, joking, and those easy, playful moments that make the best photos.  After wrapping the meadow shots, we headed back up for the extended family and cousin portraits. The balcony at Richmond Hill Golf and Country Club never disappoints, it’s one of those views I could photograph forever.  Then it was time to get serious; ceremony time. A quick rehearsal and Moshe Saadon was ready to guide Max into adulthood. The ceremony was warm, heartfelt, and full of love. The room flip for lunch was quick, and what a lunch […]

Jordana & Will’s B’nei Mitzvah: October 19, 2025 This was one wild and crazy B’nei Mitzvah celebration for the twins, Jordana and Will.  Ben Silverberg was on deck to guide this dynamic duo into adulthood. We kicked things off outside the Fionn MacCools Richmond Hill with some quick family portraits.  I love photographing in unusual spots, and this one was a gem, right up near my old stomping ground in Thornhill. Rain was in the forecast, so we were in full hustle mode, but the gods were clearly on our side. We managed to wrap everything just in time before heading inside for grandparents and extended family shots. With photos done, it was time for these kids to get serious and officially become adults in the eyes of Jewish law. Ben runs a tight ship, and this ceremony was no exception. Tucked away in a cozy corner of the restaurant, Jordana and Will spoke beautifully, making everyone proud. Once the candy flew, that was our cue, ceremony complete, time to party.  Mozie from Magen Boys was in charge of taking this party sky-high. The pub food was top-notch, the kids were ready to dance, and the energy stayed electric all […]

Nate’s Bar Mitzvah: October 23, 2025 Well, here I am, back at Congregation Habonim for Nate’s Bar Mitzvah. A crisp fall day in Toronto, the kind where the leaves are turning, the air bites just a little, and it’s still dark when you wake up… but it’s a bright and celebratory day for young Nate.  Not too chilly this time, which was a pleasant surprise; in past years I’ve been bundled up like I’m shooting in the Arctic, but today was perfectly manageable.  We met at the synagogue and got right into portraits in and around Habonim.  I started with Nate, then brought in the rest of the family, and finally we gathered the extended family; grandparents, and cousins in the alcove out back before the ceremony began. Nate was fantastic, he read from the Torah beautifully and sang more of the service than I usually hear.  Quite the proud moment, I must say.  A fantastic lunch followed, apparently Nate’s dad knows someone who knows someone who knows someone, and they really delivered. Mazel Tov, guys, what a wonderful morning.   The Story of Nate’s Bar Mitzvah: Selected Photos: HERE All the Photos: HERE   •Decor: Layla Nassar •Event Planner: Murielle […]

Nathan’s Bar Mitzvah: October 16, 2025 Nathan’s bar mitzvah was a special one, as he’s the nephew of my good friend and colleague, Justine Apple. It all took place at the Family Shul, a beautiful neighbourhood space that’s always a pleasure to photograph. In a fun twist, Justine will be photographing my nephew at the same synagogue in a couple of weeks, and I will be the guest. Nathan and I took a little walk around the area. We sat here, stood there, even did a few push-ups in the road; just your typical bar mitzvah photo shoot. Then we made our way back to the synagogue to gather the rest of the family for portraits on the lawn. Once we wrapped those up, it was time for a lovely ceremony, Family Shul style, followed by a delicious brunch and some heartfelt speeches. Lucas’ Bar Mitzvah: September 28, 2025 Lucas’s bar mitzvah was stellar. Bayview Golf & Country Club set the scene on a crisp Sunday morning. It was my second time working with his family, and once again Moshe Saadon was ready to lead the day. Lucas and I took a quick walk around the venue to get some photos done.  I then gathered the family for portraits, which are always a highlight. The extended family arrived just in time for a few group shots before we all headed inside. Moshe Saadon, as charismatic as ever, ran the ceremony beautifully. Everyone was proud of young Lukas. A delicious lunch followed, but not before the hora, speeches, and plenty of celebration. Lucas had lined up games for his guests, which kept the fun going. Mazel tov, guys. Noa’s Bar Mitzvah: October 11, 2025 Noa’s mitzvah this week was a three-part adventure. We started at Temple Sinai for the rehearsal, and I have to say, I always love that garden. It never disappoints. Next day, we headed to Alexander Muir Park for a family photo shoot, another spot that never fails to deliver. It’s such a great location for family portraits. Finally, my colleague Justine was on hand to capture the post-ceremony lunch on Saturday at Sinai. Three different but equally special moments for one incredible bar mitzvah boy, Noa. Nathan’s Bar Mitzvah: October 11, 2025 My third time around with this family, and it was once again a fun and rewarding morning. We were back at Thornhill Golf & Country Club with Mel Koenigsberg joining us again. The rain cleared just in time, so we had perfect conditions for morning photos before the ceremony. I already knew Nathan would be great to photograph after spending time with him at the previous two mitzvahs. We wandered around the club for a bit, brought in the rest of the family, and then the extended crew. Once that wrapped up, it was time for the ceremony and then a delicious lunch. Dennis’s Bar Mitzvah Rehearsal: September 11, 2025 My second time with this family, again at the City Shul by the Grange Park on Beverley. We were there for Dennis’s bar mitzvah rehearsal. We started off in the park, which btw, used to be my backyard years ago, a little rough around the edges back then, but now it is bursting with colour and life. Dennis and I took a quick walk and got down to the very serious business, as you can tell, of bar mitzvah photography. We nailed the must-have shots and then brought in the rest of the family for some fun. The summer light was on our side, making everything crisp and bright. After that we slipped inside for a quick round of rehearsal photos before calling it a day. We kicked things off with a little walk around the synagogue, hunting for fun photo spots in the architecture and surroundings. Ethan was game, and we found some great ones before the family joined in. Once we wrapped up with the immediate crew, the big gang rolled in and we had a blast with all photo combos. Then it was time to head inside for the pre-bar mitzvah. Ziva’s Bat Mitzvah: August 29, 2025 Ziva and I had such a fun rehearsal shoot at Temple Sinai. My second time with this family and it felt like we picked up right where we left off. The kids are still full of personality, just a little taller and wiser. The rain slowed us down for a moment but never stopped us. We made it work indoors and outdoors and kept the energy high. We grabbed family shots before heading into the sanctuary for photos with the Torah. Rehearsal done, next stop was the Friday night party… … and Friday night came with a bang, I was back with the family outside Temple Sinai. The afternoon was beautiful with not a drop of rain. We took extended family photos as the sun went down and more with the immediate crew. Photos wrapped, it was time for dinner. A delicious pre-ceremony meal set the tone before everyone headed off to the service. I got ready for the party that would go all night. Levi’s Bar Mitzvah: August 21, 2025 The annual bar mitzvah calendar always divides into the mitzvahs before camp and the mitzvahs after camp. Levi’s bar mitzvah was the first post camp, end of summer mitzvah, and I’m always refreshed and ready to go after a quiet July.   So here we were back at the Family Shul for my second celebration with this wonderful family. (One more still to come, I might add.)  Levi and I took a stroll around the neighbourhood for some photos before the rest of the family arrived. Once the immediate family was done, we moved right into photos with the extended family, all before the ceremony was to began. Inside, the rabbi was waiting and Levi was about to become a man in the eyes of Judaism.  The ceremony was beautiful, Levi spoke with confidence and made everyone proud. A lovely brunch followed, and just like that, we wrapped for the day. What a fantastic way to start the season. Mazal Tov, guys.   All the Photos: HERE

Noah’s Bar Mitzvah: June 19, 2025 This was my second time around with this wonderful family, and once again, they did not disappoint. This time, it was Noah stepping up to the plate. We met at the same synagogue as last time, Chabad of Aurora; quite a hike from my downtown base but I made the drive up to Richmond Hill. The weather wasn’t exactly on our side, so we opted for the covered deck around the synagogue, which turned out to be the perfect spot.  I set up camp and started photographing Noah as soon as he arrived. Then came the parents, his brother, and just like that, we were off. The extended family had travelled far to be here, so we made sure everyone got their moment in front of the lens. Every combination, every variation, we got them all.  Once portraits were wrapped, we headed into the ceremony. It’s a cozy little synagogue, but warm and welcoming. Noah was incredible. He spoke beautifully and read from the Torah with such grace and poise. A delicious brunch followed, and while everyone enjoyed the celebration, we all had one eye on Saturday night, when the party would really kick […]

Bennett’s Bar Mitzvah: June 14, 2025 What a fabulous bar mitzvah at Congregation Habonim with Bennett. My second time around with this awesome family and while everyone’s a little more grown up, they’re still just as fun. Last time was a tri-mitzvah, so Bennett and I had a lot more time to wander than I did with his brother. We strolled the Habonim neighbourhood, found a few quirky spots to shoot, and then got down to business.  His older brother, now a seasoned pro, stepped in for photos like it was like second nature. We hit a comfortable groove with the parents too and after a few extended family shots in the back alcove, we were ready for the ceremony.  Rabbi Audrey officiated with her signature mix of warmth and charisma. The singing was gorgeous, harmonies floated through the room, and the piano filled in for the usual guitar. It worked.  Bennett absolutely crushed it. He read and spoke beautifully, full of heart and confidence. Then it was off to a delicious lunch in the main hall.  Mazel tov, guys. Jamie’s Bat Mitzvah: June 7, 2025 Jamie’s bat mitzvah was a fantastic, intimate, and friendly celebration. It took place at the Angus Glen Golf Club, which I hadn’t visited in years but found just as beautiful as I remembered. I met Jamie and her family in the afternoon as they were setting up for the evening. While they worked on the final touches, I whisked Jamie away for some photos. We wandered around the golf course, found some stunning scenic spots, and got to work.  Afterward, I gathered Aidan and Jamie’s parents to complete the core family portraits. As the cousins and grandparents arrived, we found a gorgeous lilac tree that served as the perfect backdrop for the extended family photos. Mel Koenigsberg was on hand to officiate the ceremony, and was waiting in the lovely ceremony space out back, facing the course. We took our seats and enjoyed a warm, welcoming ceremony as Jamie became a bat mitzvah.  The celebration continued inside with a lively hora, a delicious dinner, heartfelt speeches, and all the joy you’d hope for. The party was run by PURE, who, as always, delivered. There was limbo, skipping rope, dancing, and non-stop fun.  Mazel tov to you […]

First on deck was Ali; ready, excited, and all bubbles and smiles. It was clear right away she’s a dancer. We wandered the synagogue looking for cool spots to shoot, and she lit up every photo.  Soon we met up with the rest of the gang, one sister, one mother, one father, and kept the session rolling. Eventually grandparents and extended family joined in, just in time for the ceremony.  The one and only Arlene Moshe was waiting to take a few photos with the Torah before we got started. Inside we went, and Ali absolutely shone. She read beautifully, made everyone proud, and brought real heart to the ceremony.  From there, it was off to Factory Lounge where Magen Boys was setting up. Matan was on the mic, so I knew this party was going to explode in the best way. Lennie’s Bat Mitzvah: May 31, 2025 Well, that was one spectacular morning with a beautiful family—four gorgeous women and one handsome dude. Dad’s outnumbered, but he’s holding his own. The kids were awesome.  Lennie and I wandered around Avenue and Lawrence, where Tutto Pronto Restaurant, our mitzvah location, next to my beloved Bagel World, is located.  We snapped photos in unexpected places, and somehow every shot just worked.  Eventually the kids joined in, then the parents, and suddenly we had a whole crew; grandparents, cousins, etc.  There was plenty of laughter, hooting, hollering, and (organized) chaos, but we got what we came for: some truly spectacular family photos.  We walked back up to the restaurant for a quick mitzvah rehearsal. Mel, one of my favourite cantors and an always-welcome sight, was waiting for us with the Torah. First time I’d seen him this year, and as always, it was a delight.  The ceremony took place outside, warmed by spring heaters. It was beautiful. Candy flew through the air, grandparents beamed, and everything unfolded just as it should.  Lunch followed, in this Italian-style gem, highly recommend. Industrial, chic, not my usual trees-and-flowers scene, but very cool in its own way. We added the rest of the family, wrapped it up outside, and headed in for the main event.  The night kicked off with a beautiful Havdalah ceremony led by the one and only Arlene Moshe. She brings charisma, warmth, and an angelic voice every time. It was a heartfelt and moving start to the celebration.  Then came the party. And what a party. Moshe Saadon was on hand, delivering his signature warm, inclusive service. Grace glowed with that gorgeous natural light it’s known for, casting everyone in an angelic shine. Vince on guitar kicked off a lively hora before we all settled into a delicious Toban dinner.  The vibe was high, lots of schmoozing, laughing, and joyful chaos. Kai’s Bar Mitzvah Rehearsal: May 8, 2025 That was quite a rehearsal at Temple Sinai. A lovely, boisterous family; four kids, parents, and a couple of grandparents. Just balls of energy. I took Kai outside into the garden for his personal photo session, as I tend to do. This kid was sharp, red hair on fire, suit cut to perfection, total style.  Little siblings were keeping tabs on us, but everything flowed smoothly. We added parents and kids into the mix.  and a bit of manageable chaos ensued.  [Side note; In all my photography adventures, there is always a bit of organic chaos to manage and document. This was one of those times. So many kids, so much personality, lots of laughter and giggles, but somehow everything finds its place, and at the end of it all, everyone just had a good time.  Maybe a little Photoshop here and there, but that’s beside the point. The process was a blast, and the results speak for themselves.] Moving on…  We wrapped up outside with family portraits, then headed in for some Torah and group photos.
