Raya’s Bat Mitzvah: November 12, 2022 Raya’s bat mitzvah started off at the family home with all the extended family her parents could gather.  I started walking with Raya into the ‘almost winter’ temperature, (anything for a good photo, I guess) before adding in sibs, parents, grandparents, and finally cousins.  What a blast.  we wrapped photos and headed to Adath Israel where the havdalah service was to take place.  I dropped in to photograph late in the service, before heading into the party room which was to house the evenings celebration.  Raya was fantastic, she spoke with confidence and charm.  Parents could not have been more proud. We wrapped the service portion, and schmoozed for a bit before Slinky from the Magen Boys fired up the dance floor, and brought the party to a high.  Lisa Covent worked tirelessly, as usual, to make the event a seamless extravaganza.  The traditional hora, speeches, amazing food, dancing non-stop, this was a great party which no-one could deny.  We finally packed it in late in the night.  Mazel tov, Raya, great night.   Story of Raya’s Bat Mitzvah: Selected Photos HERE All the Photos: HERE   •Clothing (Mitzvah): Edith’s      •Shoes (Mitzvah): Shoe Company •Clothing […]

Caleb’s Bar Mitzvah: November 11, 2022 The first thing that comes into view is the suit, Caleb walked around the corner after meeting the rabbi and all I thought was “wow, that will definitely turn heads!“. I thought that Toronto Maple Leafs suit was fantastic, and it had to be highlighted in the most flattering and brightest of lights, so into the sunshine we did venture, the sun that bathes Temple Sinai in the late afternoon is the best. Caleb was ready to rock ‘n’ roll, and turn heads he did. We hung outside for a bit before adding in the rest of the family, and then finally made our way to the sanctuary for some Torah photos. Fast forward to Friday night, and Caleb is the man of the hour. It’s time to party, and that’s what we did. Ceremony over, everyone converged on the party suite and got ready for a night to remember.  Tiffany from Bounce Entertainment was on deck to raise the roof on this party, and she did so with ease.  Lot’s of schmoozing, snacks, laughs, and giggles filled the room.  Caleb rocked his suit and ruled the night.  Mazel tov, guys.   The Story […]

Matthew’s Bar Mitzvah Rehearsal: November 3, 2022 My second run around with this family did not disappoint. Everyone is almost 3 years older and three years taller, but still the same fun and levity as the last time around. I took Matthew for a little walk about Adath Israel Synagogue, and we sure could feel winter is coming. Ben, his brother, joined us for a bit before the family showed up. Some family fun outside, and then we were into the sanctuary where the grandparents were waiting. The ubiquitous Torah pictures done, we wrapped photos up with grandparents and family. Naomi’s Bat Mitzvah: October 29, 2022 This was a fantastic two day event at Beth David Synagogue. We had a rehearsal with the family on Thursday afternoon, and then the whole enchilada on Saturday evening for the havdalah service. Naomi was fantastic, we met up on a crisp Thursday afternoon for some photos, first with Naomi, then with her sister, then the parents, and finally grandparents. The sun was low in the sky, and cold was sitting in, so we opted for some torah rehearsal photos knowing that we still had time on Saturday for portraits. Saturday came, and I met up with everyone again outside Beth David and lucky for us, the weather was in our favour. We headed into the park and had some fun family pictures. We wrapped up and headed into the sanctuary at Beth David for the main event. Being Shabbat, I was unable to film until the Havdalah service, where I got to photograph Naomi and the rest of the family lighting candles. The party was what everyone was waiting for Saturday night, and that did not disappoint. Great food, a wild hora, heart-warming speeches, and just an evening full of love and family.  […]

Mikey’s Bar Mitzvah: October 22, 2022 Photographed by: Jonni & Justine I met Mikey and the family before the ceremony for a quick photoshoot in the Sugar Heritage Park. I love this location: trees, sun, places to lean and sit, just a good location for family photos. We wrapped that up and headed to the family home for the ceremony. Mikey was on form, ready to go. The ever charming Arlene Moshe was on hand for ceremonial duties, and really hit this one out of the park. Once speeches were said, and goodbyes were hugged, everyone was ready for the night party at the eZone. Justine was on hand for that beautiful Fall day at the eZone. Mikey looked great in his casual party shirt and pants. The décor had a fun Minecraft theme. There were green, black, and purple balloons and black controller balloons. I started out doing a mini-session with Mikey outdoors. Then I took each of his sisters and did mini-sessions with them outside as well. Then we all stepped inside to do a family shoot and some shots in the whirly ball and on the basketball court. When guests arrived, everyone grabbed some delicious sushi and […]

Josh & Leah’s B’nei Mitzvah: October 10, 2022 Josh and Leah’s b’nei mitzvah rehearsal started out at the Cedarvale Park on a lovely fall afternoon. We met near Leo Baeck, where the ceremony will be taking place as the Narayever is still under construction, and headed into the park for some family photos. I took Josh and Leah separately just to bring them up to speed, and put them on the spot. Photos were fun, these two guys will do fine in the future. It’s so nice photographing in Cedarvale in the fall, hard to get a bad image. We headed inside and photographed our ubiquitous torah photos before wrapping up the session so the kids could do their rehearsal. Enter Saturday party night, post-morning ceremony. I love going to a venue I have never photographed at before, and today was one of those days. Our party was at the Laneway event space. This space is pretty cool for a summer event; we were outside, a big tent, games, just a great place to have a good time. The kids were ready to go after making it through the morning ceremony, and now it was party time. Lucas from PURE […]

Dylan’s Bat Mitzvah: October 22, 2022 This was the most beautiful fall day at the Oakdale Golf & Country Club. Just spectacular, we could not have asked for anything better. I met Dylan and the family in the parking lot and off we did go for some photos. Dylan looked stunning, we had fun as we circumnavigated the entire clubhouse before settling in with parents, grandparents, and family for a photo session. Once we’d had enough of the beautiful sunlight, we headed in to the Mitzvah ceremony officiated by the delightful Moshe Saadon. This was held outside on the patio with flames blazing to keep us warm, (not necessary). The party inside was chilled and calm; a duo of excellent musicians played guitar and sang, there were delightful speeches from kids and adults, and Dylan was again, just wonderful. Spectacular food, lovely atmosphere, and the evening went off without a hitch. Max’s Bar Mitzvah: October 10, 2022 Well it was so nice to see some familiar faces this morning at Album Studio for Max’s bar mitzvah. This was a wonderful morning; great space, bright windows, a proud mom, a charismatic rabbi, and a soon-to-be-a-man bar mitzvah boy.  I took Max for a little walk about the neighbourhood, stopped here and there for some photo opportunities. His mom joined us for a time before we had to head inside for the ceremony.  Rabbi Yossi Sapirman was on hand to lead this mitzvah boy through his mitzvah paces, always humourous and witty, Rabbi Yossi had us in stitches as he explained the details of the service.  Max spoke beautifully, full of confidence and poise.  He had everyone on the edge of their seats with his words.  We wrapped things up with a delicious meal.  Great day, guys, mazel tov, guys.   The Story of Max’s Bar Mitzvah: Selected Photos HERE All the Photos: HERE

Lauren’s Bat Mitzvah: October 15, 2022 It was so nice to finally return to Magnolia Event Boutique, COVID has kept all of us away for quite a while. Paul has done an amazing renovation and I encourage all of you looking for a venue to check it out. Lauren and I did a little walkabout outside, windy day as it was, we still managed some photo fun. Lauren’s brother joined us and finally the family rounded out all involved. We headed inside and gathered up the rest of the extended family before the service. Mel Koenigsberg was on deck for the ceremony, which is always a delight. He is humorous and makes everyone feel so welcome.  Ceremony wrapped up, it was time to really get down and party.  Magen Boys were on deck, with DJ Stoke at the mic. This was a full-blown party, a pretty amazing night. There was some thing for everyone; party games, an amazing amount of candy, dancing, balloons, it was like Lauren in Wonderland. The synagogue has undergone such a wonderful transformation since the renovation, it’s hard to find a bad spot in which to photograph. Hailey was all in, we wondered around and just had a great time outside before adding in sib and parents. Finally all grandparents were accounted for and portraits were done. Once inside, we used the wonderful for foyer and upstairs 3rd floor for some photos before settling down with the Torah in the sanctuary. We wrapped up and waited until party day… fast forward… Party day, and Hailey looked beautiful in her bat mitzvah dress. The room decor was a gorgeous blue and gold where the post-service luncheon would be held. The whole family plus Hailey’s friends were all very excited. Soft music playing in the background created a calm and classy ambience, just ideal for the post-ceremony celebration. Lots of schmoozing was to be had, kids playing arcade games, delicious appetizers passed around, and food stations aplenty. Jacobi and Joaquim’s B’nei Mitzvah: October 10, 2022 Photographed by: Justine It was a chilly Thanksgiving Monday morning at Maple Downs Golf & Country Club. The Fall leaves looked beautiful, so many vibrant reds, yellows, and oranges. Twins Jacobi and Joaquim arrived at the golf club looking very dapper in their crisp blue suits. We started our photoshoot with Jacobi. We took shots indoors and outdoors, walking around the golf club. Jacobi was an easy-going guy and a pleasure to work with. I then invited Joaquim to work with me and like his twin, he was very easy to work with. Indoors and out, we took advantage of the greens and the Fall colours. Following that, I took the twins’ older brother Maxim out for some photos. He was a good looking kid who has clearly posed for a camera. Family photos followed; three brothers, the boys with their parents, and their proud grandmother. We moved inside for the shul service with Mel Koenigsberg holding fort. The service was filled with beautiful song, prayer, and warmth. The twins did an excellent job reading from the Torah, and many family members participated in Aliyot and speeches. I then took shots of guests schmoozing in the tent, having appetizers and drinks, etc. It was then time for a short Havdallah service with lovely guitar accompaniment from Leo the musician. Lexi gave a beautiful Dvar Torah and sang a few songs. She made her family very proud. After the Havdallah service, everyone came up to the dance floor to do a lively hora and chair lift. Alyssa’s Bat Mitzvah: September 4, 2022 The insanity prevailed again this fine evening at the Grand Luxe, “a night to remember” was oft quoted by those in attendance.  As was “here we go again”… and again we did go.  My second time around with this family, and the ante was upped just a bit, but slow down we must… let’s start at the beginning. This outing began at a rehearsal at Adath Israel on Friday afternoon, a glorious day by Toronto standards.  We met, we laughed, we wandered, we photographed, we just had so much fun that the next outing, Sunday night, would seal the deal.  Sunday was the day when insanity prevailed, it was a literal open mic for theatre singers and aspiring wanna-bees.  And we have not yet addressed the woman of the hour, Alyssa.  She was spectacular on both occasions, read a beautiful torah portion at rehearsal, and kicked it up onstage with the rest of the family.  Magen Boys held court, specifically Chief Boy himself, Paige, as Karen Rachlin conducted the behind the scenes with effortless aplomb. This was just one outstanding party by everyone’s standards. Singers from Evan Hanson dropped by (when does that ever […]

Amitai’s Bar Mitzvah: August 28, 2022 Photos by: Carlos Photographing bar mitzvahs at Hart House is always a humbling experience. With its Gothic-revival exteriors and highly ornate ceilings and walls, Hart House gives off an atmosphere of grandeur, calmness and aesthetics that few other places can match. The weather on this fine early autumn morning was the perfect mix of sunny and cool, and Amitai seized it to its fullest. He nailed photo after photo like a pro but the modelling traits must run in the family because just look at those portraits! Everyone looked so radiant and full of love for each other. The ceremony was full of emotional, intimate and touching moments of familial love—everyone was so proud of Amitai, who won everyone over with his wit and charm. But the party was just getting started—the hora was fast-paced and exciting, and dad took it upon himself to show everyone in attendance how proud he was of his boy. Vegetarian cuisine, lots of candies, photo booth and heartfelt speeches topped off the day. What an honour to be the one documenting this event.
