Emma’s Bat Mitzvah: March 23, 2019 This bat mitzvah party was north of the city at the Riviera Nightclub, started my season after the March break beautifully. Emma is super sweet and accommodating to a fault.  We managed to get some pictures outside before heading to the foyer which has this amazing architecture to use as a backdrop. The family joined us for some photos and we all did relax before the party. Then kids started showing up, lots and lots of kids, because this was a kids party to end all kids parties. Magen Boys‘ MC Jordan, was in fine form (… and appears to have been working out during the winter months).  He held the party together beautifully as only he can. We had a great time, what a nice way to start the season. Ella’s Bat Mitzvah: March 31, 2019 (Dani Event Centre)

Ella’s Bat Mitzvah: March 31, 2019 I love this blue walled synagogue, I’ve been there over the years and never get tired of photographing. Small? Yes, but it has such wonderful architecture and color, and today, it did not disappoint. Ella was great, she looked beautiful throughout our photo shoot and continued through the family portraits. She’s such a sweet kid, very accommodating and helpful. We photographed the family and then adjourned to the Dani Event Centre where, if you’ve never tasted the food, you’re missing out. DANI’s food is spectacular, there’s no other way to describe it.  The best kosher lunch you’ll find in the city. Thanks for having me out guys, looking forward to next one. Rachel’s Bat Mitzvah: March 24, 2019 What a nice venue to spend a Sunday morning, The Boulevard Club down on Lake Ontario is just perfect for a spring morning bat mitzvah, and today was Rachel’s. The weather cooperated well, nonetheless, Rachel had to ‘jacket up’ for some outdoor photos.  She’s such a great kid and looked particularly stunning this morning. The ceremony inside was a humanistic service officiated over by Eva Goldfinger, very inclusive and moving. Rachel was fantastic, spoke with grace and conviction. Post ceremony was a schmooze-fest; eating, laughing, and generally celebrating with the family… and let’s not forget that amazing chocolate cake. Matthew’s Bar Mitzvah: February 2, 2019 Well this was a fun mitzvah, Matthew’s mom was someone that I met in 1997 in Israel and we reconnected now some 20 years later for her son Matthew’s bar mitzvah. Fun family these guys, all laughs and giggles. We had to serious things down a little bit for our rehearsal photo shoot but it was difficult to keep these guys from just cracking up.. loved it. The cold didn’t stop us either, we ventured into the January weather, if only for a minute, to get some pics outside the Holy Blossom Temple. Veronica’s Bat Mitzvah: January 26, 2019 It’s amazing that the first mitzvah of my year turns out to be a family I know and a fantastic party to boot, what a great time we all had. Veronica is one of those kids that is fun to photograph, she makes you laugh, and is just an all-around joy. She was definitely in a good sporting mood to venture outside on Saturday evening to let me get some pictures before the sun went down. If you recall, this was not a warm January evening. Once done, it was into The Factory and up against the wall, so to speak, for family photos. The room looked great, Shawn from Sole Power was also making his return with his family since the last simcha, and we just partied late into the night. Erin & Aubrey’s B’not Mitzvah: Dec 15, 2018 Photographed by Ben For the last party of the year, it was amazing to be shooting for an old friend and her lovely family.  I had never shot an evening event at The Brickworks but knew it was going to be a fun place to shoot. The venue didn’t disappoint, and neither did the party goers.  Every partied like it was the last big party of the bat mitzvah season.  The energy was high, the food was fantastic and Bounce Entertainment kept everyone going well into the night. Tyler’s Bar Mitzvah: December 14, 2018 Tyler’s bar mitzvah was divided into a wonderful rehearsal at the Temple Sinai a few days before the night party. Temple Sinai has that beautiful garden outside, wonderful to photograph, and this was no exception except for the chilly December weather as is Toronto. Nonetheless, we braved the elements and stayed outside to get some photos of Tyler and the family. Once done, inside we did go, warmer of course, and on to photograph the family at the Torah. This was definitely a celebration in the making and a good time was had by all. The party Friday night… everyone was ready to let loose, and loose we did ‘let’.  Keston of the Megan Boys brought down the house as only he can, and we partied well into the night. Mya’s Bat Mitzvah: December 9, 2018 Mya’s bat mitzvah affair was so much fun, this is a family that I met a few months ago for a family photo shoot and it was wonderful to get back together again for this special simcha. Mya is one friendly kid. She was so smiley and fun, it was hard to not get a great photograph of her every time. The Beth David Synagogue stands out as one of the brightest and lightest in Toronto, and this day was no exception. No flash-photography necessary, just natural light streaming in through the stained-glass windows. Everyone was excited, the food was delicious, the speeches were warm and heartfelt, and all went according to plan. Matthew’s Bar Mitzvah: December 9, 2018 Photographed by Ben and Jonni Matthew’s Bar Mitzvah was a multi-layered affair; a sports day with the boys, the rehearsal at the majestic Beth Sholom synagogue, back to the house for some family photos, then a morning ceremony and finally a lunch bash. Wow, and lot to take in.  Matthew was great, taking everything in stride leading up to his day at the Torah.  This was the third simcha for the family, so it was the big finale many years in the making. The room looked amazing, the food tasted fantastic, the hora went on and on, Matthew and his sibs cleared the speech hurdle with ease, and the whole event was just plenty of fun. Ayelet’s Bat Mitzvah: December 8, 2018 This was a lovely function up at the Reisman Centre one Saturday evening before the holidays. Ayelet was ready to go from the first minute she arrived. I started off with some family photos on the couch but all the while, Ayelet was just chomping at the bit wanting to party hard with her friends. As soon as I was done, I let her loose, and off she went to kick off the night. This was one rocking party which will be remembered for a long time. We were at the Richmond Hill Golf & Country Club for a marvellous ceremony and lunch celebration. It’s been two years and these boys have grown up. Daniel’s Bar Mitzvah: November 24, 2018 Daniel‘s bar mitzvah was a three parter, the ceremony at the lovely Beth Emeth Bais Yehuda synagogue in the morning, some photos of the family with the Torah later in the day, and a rockin Magen Boys party at The Factory in the evening. I’ll say that Daniel and his brother were quite in sync, playing off each other beautifully and often. From what I see, this family is big into classic rock, and did not disappoint. Relevant songs through the night proved me right, as did brother Marcus’ guitar interlude. A little chilly this December But we managed some family photos and pictures of the boys outside, weather and wind be damned. Once inside, Temple Sinai is all about getting that rehearsal done and off we went post-haste. Fast forward a few days to the amazing party venue Canvas.   We got some great pictures in and around the furniture store attached to Canvas before heading up for an amazing Magen Boys party. Ellie’s Bat Mitzvah: November 17, 2018 This was my second time around with Ellie’s family, and I could not wait.  Not only is this family kind and warm, they also know how to party.  He started off at the rehearsal at the fantastic Beth Torah Synagogue a few days earlier. After the “How have you been since the last simcha?” pleasantries, we got down to the business of photography. This is such a fun family to work with, and our rehearsal session went by with ease.  Ellie was great, so sweet and graceful, the perfect combination of charm and charisma. Fast forward a few days and we are all back at Beth Torah and the mood was more electric and exciting. The service at this synagogue is the best around, thanks to Rabbi Yossi Sapirman and Ben Silverman running such a tight ship. After the ceremony, it was party all night long. Abby’s Bat Mitzvah: November 17, 2018 Photographed by Jonni & Ben Abby’s rehearsal was a joy to photograph, the always amazing Beth Tzedec was ours for the night, and although a little chilled outside, we managed quite well.  Abby was fantastic; confident and graceful, ready for the morning service.  I was done for the rehearsal, envious of Ben who took over for the party… and what a party it was. Ben… Well, if you’re going to go the high-octane party route, then you might as well go all out!  Bust out your flux capacitors and crank the DeLorean up to 88 MPH!!!  Not only did parents pull out every entertainment stop to achieve maximum ‘partitude‘, they also hired a photographer whom they have known since grade school.  This can only make for a raucous affair, one to remember….or not remember as some might have it.  From the Megan Boys to “Clarence the DJ”, an absolute killer time had by all. Marty & Sydney’s B’not Mitzvah: November 10, 2018 Marty & Sydney’s B’not Mitzvah was a wild and crazy affair at The Warehouse in Downsview Park.  A cold day it was, but that did not stop us running inside and out to get some ‘sunshine’ pics.  Brave kids, all three of them.  Once inside, the real celebration began. A truly intimate and warm ceremony officiated by Arlene Moshe, led to non-stop action from the Magen Boys. The main man, Justin, held down MC duties on this one, and the twins wowed everyone with their style, charisma, and class. Amazing party, guys. You can’t help but love the white foyer and entrance as a photographer, just so bright and inviting. Ty was awesome, this kid knows how to chill. We managed to beat the rain and get some shots outside before coming back in for some family snaps. Alexandra’s Bat Mitzvah Party: October 27, 2018 I love this venue, Alexandra’s party took place at Archeo Restaurant in The Distillery. It was an anticipated venue by me to photograph in because my daughter is having her bat mitzvah there in 2019 so it was good to test the waters… and the waters were fantastic, it’s such a funky cool venue, perfect for this funky cool young woman.  It suited Alexandra just perfectly. Maya’s Bat Mitzvah: Oct 8, 2018 Maya’s bat mitzvah rehearsal and ceremony took place at the exquisite Beth Tzedec Synagogue in Toronto. The rehearsal with the family was fun; a beautiful warm summer afternoon with parents, grandparents, and siblings. The next week was followed up by a lovely ceremony in the morning followed by a rocking party through the lunch hour and well into the afternoon. Magen Boys threw down like no other with Morgan hosting MC duties and bringing this crowd of tweens to their feet. Maya was fantastic throughout the day, poised and graceful in her mitzvah delivery, and partying with her friends until everyone headed home. Noah’s Bar Mitzvah Rehearsal: Oct 4, 2018 I met Noah and the family, the large family, at Beth Torah on Thursday afternoon.  I love photographing at this synagogue, it’s bright and inviting, and the afternoon light is spectacular on the north end. Noah and his brother have plenty of energy as was evident with any downtime in photography. Definitely a loving and warm family, they all look like fun and games at home. We photographed everyone outside, grabbed the rest of the family and did our best against the wind. Back inside it was rehearsal time, what’s a couple of beautiful silhouettes, and back home to practice for Saturday’s simcha. Noah’s Bar Mitzvah Rehearsal: Oct 3, 2018 We had a fantastic bar mitzvah rehearsal at Adath Israel on Wednesday evening.  Noah and his brother were in fine form. Here’s one sharply dressed charismatic kid, who was able to pull off this photo session like a rockstar. The sun was going down, his golden locks were set ablaze metaphorically as we chilled outside the synagogue. Back inside, a quick rehearsal followed, and then we were off to photo land once again.
