This was photo shoot of a good family friend from days of yore.  Photographing at Beth Torah is always a joy and easily one of my favourite places to work.  Tons of amazing colour and light make this space inviting.  The bar mitzvah boy and his brother were full of energy and eager to make the most of our time together.  The entire family was relaxed, excited and an overall true pleasure to work with.

Ella’s Bat Mitzvah Rehearsal: October 19, 2018

I’ve only shot at The Family Shul one other time, and it was just as spectacular as I remembered.  Ella is a beautiful girl and was super excited to have her photoshoot.  She and her brother Myles had such an amazing connection that was such a pleasure to watch and shoot.  Everyone in the family was fun, playful and excited to celebrate.  Mazel Tov!!

Colby’s Bar Mitzvah: Oct 20, 2018

It was very special to connect with an old friend and to photograph his son’s bar mitzvah last week.  If that was not enough, we then spent some time hiking in a beautiful forest north of Toronto.  Fall is the best season…  Back to the mitzvah…

Colby was fantastic.  We took over the York Mills Gallery 2 for the evening and had a blast.  First some amazing family photos in the park across the street, then in for the Havdalah service.  Sean of Sole Power just raised the roof, and Sarah and Hailey Cherry tied this event up splendidly. What an amazing night.  A few days later, after things quietened down, we got to stroll through the forest and enjoy the Fall weather.  Mazel Tov, guys, see you next time around.

Maya’s Bat Mitzvah: Oct 8, 2018

Maya’s bat mitzvah rehearsal and ceremony took place at the exquisite Beth Tzedec Synagogue in Toronto. The rehearsal with the family was fun; a beautiful warm summer afternoon with parents, grandparents, and siblings. The next week was followed up by a lovely ceremony in the morning followed by a rocking party through the lunch hour and well into the afternoon. Magen Boys threw down like no other with Morgan hosting MC duties and bringing this crowd of tweens to their feet. Maya was fantastic throughout the day, poised and graceful in her mitzvah delivery, and partying with her friends until everyone headed home. Mazel tov!!

Noah’s Bar Mitzvah Rehearsal: Oct 4, 2018

I met Noah and the family, the large family, at Beth Torah on Thursday afternoon.  I love photographing at this synagogue, it’s bright and inviting, and the afternoon light is spectacular on the north end. Noah and his brother have plenty of energy as was evident with any downtime in photography. Definitely a loving and warm family, they all look like fun and games at home. We photographed everyone outside, grabbed the rest of the family and did our best against the wind. Back inside it was rehearsal time, what’s a couple of beautiful silhouettes, and back home to practice for Saturday’s simcha. Mazel tov, Guys!!

Noah’s Bar Mitzvah Rehearsal: Oct 3, 2018

We had a fantastic bar mitzvah rehearsal at Adath Israel on Wednesday evening.  Noah and his brother were in fine form. Here’s one sharply dressed charismatic kid, who was able to pull off this photo session like a rockstar. The sun was going down, his golden locks were set ablaze metaphorically as we chilled outside the synagogue. Back inside, a quick rehearsal followed, and then we were off to photo land once again. Talia’s Bat Mitzvah Rehearsal: Sept 26, 2018

Well this was an easy photoshoot, you cannot go wrong with the lighting in the garden at Temple Sinai, it’s just gorgeous, no other words… and then look at Talia, stunning. Great time with his family on a Wednesday afternoon. Sure, maybe there were some power issues in the synagogue but that did not stop us having a fantastic time.  Mazel Tov!!!

Braden’s Bar Mitzvah: Sept 21, 2018

Braden’s bar mitzvah involved a wonderful Friday night service at the Maple Downs golf club. Officiated by the charismatic Arlene Moshe, ’twas a stellar evening with good friends, funny speeches, beautiful singing, and just all-around happiness and joy. The weather was misbehaving but it did not stop any of us from making the most of this Friday evening. Braden was fantastic as he read from the Torah with the confidence of a soon-to-be man.  This family knows haw to crack a joke, I like that… Mazel tov, guys.

Jonathan’s Bar Mitzvah: Sept 13, 2018

I was back in the Kehila Centre with this wonderful Argentinian family for Jonathan’s bar mitzvah last Thursday morning. What a fantastic day to photograph both inside and outside this synagogue. The Kehila Centre is such a large and inviting synagogue, beautiful from any direction. Jonathan was great, beaming from ear to ear while standing on the bimmah, reciting his portion, while his mom looked down from the balcony. What started out as a lovely ceremony, ended in the garden outside for some family photos. It was a wonderful way to spend a Thursday morning before heading into Sunday…

…OK, let’s discuss Sunday, we were back at the Kehila Centre where these Argentinians really know how to party. We’re talking about dancing around crazy with arms waving in the air, people being thrown around just like you would see in a dance movie, the hora involved four people on chairs at the same time; just insanity from start to finish. Lucas from PURE Entertainment emceed this affair, as only he could (being Argentinian and all); Great party, fun people, amazing energy! Mazel Tov.

Jordan’s Bar Mitzvah: September 1, 2018

Jordan’s is one cool dude, just look at him dressed in them sweet threads, coy smile, styled hair, he does look pretty good.  His bar mitzvah week (both family photoshoot and ceremony/lunch) was a fun way to start the season.  We all met in Cedarvale Park earlier in the week and concluded at Le Parc on Saturday morning for the ceremony. Rabbi Mel presiding over festivities and held it together nicely.  (I forgot how mellifluous Mel’s voice is, I have not seen him over the summer.)  Back to Jordan… he was out of the gate and delivered his portion with grace and confidence.  On a side note, this was the largest basket of candy thrown at a bar mitzvah boy in living memory. Lunch was delicious, as his sister Ashleigh held down the MC duties delightfully.  And now y’all, back to school.  Mazel Tov!!

Dylan’s Bar Mitzvah: Aug 27, 2018

Dylan’s bar mitzvah was quite the event, taking place in the spectacular garden of his home overlooking Cedarvale Ravine.  The morning rain gave way to a stellar albeit humid afternoon but then it cooled down to a lovely late summer evening. The crowd was ready for a party, even on this Monday night and this mitzvah delivered… and then some. Dylan was all in, we managed a photo shoot with the brothers, parents, and grandparents before everyone arrived and this garden was one easy place to photograph.  We were treated to a special outdoor service by Rabbi Gantz from the Village Shul, followed by an delicious meal.  By the time the clock struck 9, everyone was dancing up a storm treating this Monday as if it was a Saturday night.  Good times, Mazel Tov.

Avery’s Bat Mitzvah: July 12, 2018

My second time around with this wonderful family… and then we’re done.  Avery is 2 weeks older than my daughter, so I have known her since birth.  On this day, she was very much the beautiful young woman about to be bat mitzvah.  We had some fun outside in the summer sun, and then into the synagogue for the ceremony.  Avery delivered her torah portion effortlessly, and with style and grace.  Mazel tov, guys.

Emily’s Bat Mitzvah: June 16, 2018

I have known Emily’s parents for years now, so it was a pleasure to photograph Emily and her family both at a quick rehearsal and then the party at Brassaii.  Emily was fantastic, read her torah potion flawlessly, and then broke loose at the lunch-party downtown.  Jonah, her brother was definitely ‘on’ when it came to the speeches, and everyone there was in such good spirits.  Now we have to photograph the family in the park in Oct to catch the fall colours, and then we’ll be done this mitzvah.  Mazel tov, guys!!

Emma & David’s B’nei Mitzvah: June 24, 2018

So it was quite an ordeal to get things perfectly organized for the rehearsal and party but once all the chips fell into place, the outcome was spectacular. Emma and David We’re such fun to photograph. I wasn’t sure initially how the twins would interact but they blended seamlessly. It was a fantastic both inside (you can’t go wrong with stained glass, can you?) and outside of the beautiful Beth Emeth Synagogue, and then the party just topped things off. Magen boys were stellar, as usual, the room looked amazing, and everything just felt perfectly into place. Mazel Tov, guys

Jack’s Bar Mitzvah: June 24, 2018

Jonni… I photographed Jack’s rehearsal on a beautiful afternoon in Toronto at the beautiful Beth Tzedec Synagogue. He looked awesome as we walked around in the sunshine and had some excellent photography time. Once inside, we did the torah pictures and then packed everything up to get ready for the party where Ben was on hand…

Ben… A photographers dream, a super photogenic family and a fun laid-back event in one of the coolest venues in Toronto.  The Wychwood Barns photographs beautifully with tons of natural light and old world feel.  The decor and details were impeccably selected and displayed while the guests were treated to tons of amazing food and live music.  Jack ripped it up during the horah, and then partied the night away. Good times. Mazel tov!!!

Samara’s Bat Mitzvah: June 21/23, 2018

I photographed Samara’s bat Mitzvah ceremony and party over two beautiful days in June.  She was fantastic!  Along with her kid sister, the two of them held court perfectly and brought everyone to tears (of joy).  The ceremony at Beth Torah presided over by the charismatic Rabbi Yossi Sapirman and beautifully sounding Ben Silverberg was amazing.  Such wonderful warmth and energy.  The party was spectacular at the York Mills 2, I love this venue for photography, such a choice space.  Magen Boys hit a home run, and everyone had a great time.

As soon as I walked in to the venue and met Ari’s mom, I knew I was in for a high energy night.  And then when I met Ari’s mom’s best friends….i knew I was in for a super crazy high energy night.  Dad’s jokes were on point, the DJ was killing it, and all-in-all, a wild party ensued… to the point where it got so hot in the venue it triggered the fire alarm.  That was a first for me.  Mazel Tov!!

This super fun, beautiful family is always a pleasure to photograph, and I think this may be my first bowling bar mitzvah.  Bowling, laser tag and video games made for ample opportunity for fun and creativity.  Having a personal connection to the family always makes for a good time. Julia’s Bat Mitzvah: June 16, 2018

After working as a photographer in the city for as long as I have, its rare for me to photograph at a place I have not yet photographed at yet.  Behold…the Columbus Centre – Sala Caboto. What an amazing venue with both photographic gems both inside and out.  A beautiful early morning ceremony in the sunshine outdoors in the beautiful garden followed by a fantastic reception indoors.  Of course its always a pleasure photographing families whom one has known for more than half one’s life.  Great venue, great food, great energy, great vibe all around. Julia was fantastic and did not let a little ‘injury’ get in the way of her having a fantastic day.  Mazel Tov.

Lauren’s Bat Mitzvah Rehearsal: June 15/21 2018

I got to spend time with Lauren at both a rehearsal and in the park with her family. She is one impressive kid; so sweet and kind. Her sister was just as involved in the whole photography event as Lauren, and both of them together put on quite a show. I love the Beth Emeth Synagogue for the rehearsal, those stained glass windows make such a statement, you can’t but fall in love with the colour. And how can you not like the Alexander Muir Park… it’s perfect.  Thanks for allowing me to join you guys for these two afternoons, it was a very special time. Looking forward to the next one. Mia’s Bat Mitzvah: June 16, 2018

So Mia and her brother were basically the centre of everyone’s attention, obviously Mia more so being the bat mitzvah girl but you couldn’t look past her cute brother.  This whole event was at the family home in Forest Hill, and these guys really know how to throw down a party. We started the day outside in the beautiful lush green garden taking photos of the family, then moved into the backyard where the ceremony was presided over by Moshe Saadon, and then the Magen Boys just raised the roof for the rest of the night.  Mia is one very special and charismatic kid, based on the kind words from her friends and family, it is evident that she is going to go far.  Mazel Tov, guys.

Ruben’s Bar Mitzvah: June 14, 2018

Well this was too great days spent with Rubin and his family, we started out at Beth Torah for a rehearsal, then back to the family home for a photo shoot with the dog. Had to have the dog! We then followed up a few days later with the wonderful morning ceremony that only Rabbi Yossi Sapirman and Cantor Ben Silverberg can provide. The ceremony at Beth Torah is by far and away one of the best for a bar or bat mitzvah. Ruben was great, pulled it off with style and class in front of very proud friends and family.  A delicious brunch followed and we were on to the home stretch. Mazel Tov, guys!

Well this was one fantastic mitzvah and party.  We started out with a rehearsal at Beth Torah, Which is always a magnificent synagogue to photograph in, and then had a wild party at The Uptown Loft on Young Street where the Magen Boys presided over quite competently. This is one special girl, besides looking stunning in every photograph, she is smart, funny, warm, and is well loved by all friends and family.  This was a crazy party; wild break-dancers, funny speeches, a genuine celebration of a young woman’s coming of age. Mazel Tov, guys!!!

Lylah’s Bat Mitzvah: June 8/9, 2018

I met Lylah and her family at the City Shul on the Friday afternoon before her bat mitzvah.  We had a fabulous time outside in the beautiful sunshine, and then headed in for the rehearsal.  Lylah is a very special young woman; sweet, kind, and just a joy to photograph.  The pics are fabulous, but I was not around for the Saturday.  Ben took over…

Ben:

Just walking into aunt Judy’s house to shoot the pre party family dinner, I could tell from the laid back fun funny vibe that this was going to be a great family event to shoot.  Only one word can truly express and sum up the Saturday night party……CROWDSURF!! (wait, that’s two words?)  You know you have reached the pinnacle and apex of bat mitzvah parties when the mother of the bat mitzvah girl gets on the stage and crowd surfs across the room!!!  A truly beautiful family inside and out.

Lenore’s Bat Mitzvah: June 2, 2018

Lenore’s Bat Mitzvah was held at the Borgata Banquet Hall. What started off as a simple affair turned into genuine party craziness. There was a juggler at the front end of this party and two Cuban dances at the tail end, and everything in between was pure Magen Boys. This family knows how to throw a party. Lenore was fantastic, carrying her self with charm and grace, wowing friends and family who were there to celebrate.  Mazel Tov!!

Megan’s Bat Mitzvah: June 3, 2018

Megan’s Bat Mitzvah Took place at the Hazelton Manor Banquet Hall. There is a South African connection here which runs deep, me being brought up in South Africa and all, so back to my roots I go. The family was all in for this party, Meghan being the star attraction. This was quite the party, Keston emceed like no other and break dancer Kyryll dropped everyone’s jaws with his stellar moves.  We went late into the night before calling it quits. Mazel Tov guys, uitstekende nag!!!

Jack’s Bar Mitzvah: June 7, 2018

What can I say about Jack’s Bar Mitzvah, this was such a special afternoon and party, Jack and his two sisters are quite chill, working the camera like a professional trio. What started out at the family home with Cantor Moshe running a fantastic ceremony ended up at the Oakdale Golf & Country Club with and insane party MC’d by Daniel of the Magen Boys.  The fantastic break dancer Kyryll made an appearance to take everyone’s breath away. Jack’s two sisters managed the microphone duties well, and Jessica Baker tied tonight together with her amazing event planning.  Mazel Tov guys.

Dani’s Bat Mitzvah: May 27, 2018

Dani’s Bat Mitzvah was held at The Factory on Steeles Ave.  I love that we found some greenery in and amongst the buildings to photograph the family.  Dani was so sweet, along with her little brother, and so able to warm everyone’s heart. MC David Monaco of the Magen Boys held down the fort and raised this party to the roof. What a great way to spend the evening. Mazel Tov, guys!!!
