Ethan’s Bar Mitzvah Torah Reading: September 11, 2025 This morning was Ethan’s bar mitzvah Torah reading at Petah Tikva, and the day could not have been more perfect. We kicked things off with a little walk around the synagogue, hunting for fun photo spots in the architecture and surroundings. Ethan was game, and we found some great ones before the family joined in. Once we wrapped up with the immediate crew, the big gang rolled in and we had a blast with all photo combos. Then it was time to head inside for the pre-bar mitzvah. The big day is Saturday, but today had all the good stuff — tefillin, Torah reading, and a delicious brunch, without the speeches and nerves, just an easy, joy-filled morning. Ethan, you crushed it. Ziva’s Bat Mitzvah: August 29, 2025 Ziva and I had such a fun rehearsal shoot at Temple Sinai. My second time with this family and it felt like we picked up right where we left off. The kids are still full of personality, just a little taller and wiser. The rain slowed us down for a moment but never stopped us. We made it work indoors and outdoors and kept the energy high. We grabbed family shots before heading into the sanctuary for photos with the Torah. Rehearsal done, next stop was the Friday night party… … and Friday night came with a bang, I was back with the family outside Temple Sinai. The afternoon was beautiful with not a drop of rain. We took extended family photos as the sun went down and more with the immediate crew. Photos wrapped, it was time for dinner. A delicious pre-ceremony meal set the tone before everyone headed off to the service. I got ready for the party that would go all night. Hora, speeches, dancing, Bounce Entertainment bringing serious party vibes. Ziva, what an evening, well done.   The Story of Ziva’s Bat Mitzvah: Selected Photos: HERE All the Photos: HERE   […]

Levi’s Bar Mitzvah: August 21, 2025 The annual bar mitzvah calendar always divides into the mitzvahs before camp and the mitzvahs after camp. Levi’s bar mitzvah was the first post camp, end of summer mitzvah, and I’m always refreshed and ready to go after a quiet July.   So here we were back at the Family Shul for my second celebration with this wonderful family. (One more still to come, I might add.)  Levi and I took a stroll around the neighbourhood for some photos before the rest of the family arrived. Once the immediate family was done, we moved right into photos with the extended family, all before the ceremony was to began. Inside, the rabbi was waiting and Levi was about to become a man in the eyes of Judaism.  The ceremony was beautiful, Levi spoke with confidence and made everyone proud. A lovely brunch followed, and just like that, we wrapped for the day. What a fantastic way to start the season. Mazal Tov, guys.   All the Photos: HERE

Noah’s Bar Mitzvah: June 19, 2025 This was my second time around with this wonderful family, and once again, they did not disappoint. This time, it was Noah stepping up to the plate. We met at the same synagogue as last time, Chabad of Aurora; quite a hike from my downtown base but I made the drive up to Richmond Hill. The weather wasn’t exactly on our side, so we opted for the covered deck around the synagogue, which turned out to be the perfect spot.  I set up camp and started photographing Noah as soon as he arrived. Then came the parents, his brother, and just like that, we were off. The extended family had travelled far to be here, so we made sure everyone got their moment in front of the lens. Every combination, every variation, we got them all.  Once portraits were wrapped, we headed into the ceremony. It’s a cozy little synagogue, but warm and welcoming. Noah was incredible. He spoke beautifully and read from the Torah with such grace and poise. A delicious brunch followed, and while everyone enjoyed the celebration, we all had one eye on Saturday night, when the party would really kick […]

Bennett’s Bar Mitzvah: June 14, 2025 What a fabulous bar mitzvah at Congregation Habonim with Bennett. My second time around with this awesome family and while everyone’s a little more grown up, they’re still just as fun. Last time was a tri-mitzvah, so Bennett and I had a lot more time to wander than I did with his brother. We strolled the Habonim neighbourhood, found a few quirky spots to shoot, and then got down to business.  His older brother, now a seasoned pro, stepped in for photos like it was like second nature. We hit a comfortable groove with the parents too and after a few extended family shots in the back alcove, we were ready for the ceremony.  Rabbi Audrey officiated with her signature mix of warmth and charisma. The singing was gorgeous, harmonies floated through the room, and the piano filled in for the usual guitar. It worked.  Bennett absolutely crushed it. He read and spoke beautifully, full of heart and confidence. Then it was off to a delicious lunch in the main hall.  Mazel tov, guys. What a day, so much fun.   The Story of Bennett’s Bar Mitzvah: Selected Photos: HERE All the Photos: HERE   […]

Jamie’s Bat Mitzvah: June 7, 2025 Jamie’s bat mitzvah was a fantastic, intimate, and friendly celebration. It took place at the Angus Glen Golf Club, which I hadn’t visited in years but found just as beautiful as I remembered. I met Jamie and her family in the afternoon as they were setting up for the evening. While they worked on the final touches, I whisked Jamie away for some photos. We wandered around the golf course, found some stunning scenic spots, and got to work.  Afterward, I gathered Aidan and Jamie’s parents to complete the core family portraits. As the cousins and grandparents arrived, we found a gorgeous lilac tree that served as the perfect backdrop for the extended family photos. Mel Koenigsberg was on hand to officiate the ceremony, and was waiting in the lovely ceremony space out back, facing the course. We took our seats and enjoyed a warm, welcoming ceremony as Jamie became a bat mitzvah.  The celebration continued inside with a lively hora, a delicious dinner, heartfelt speeches, and all the joy you’d hope for. The party was run by PURE, who, as always, delivered. There was limbo, skipping rope, dancing, and non-stop fun.  Mazel tov to you […]

Ali’s Bat Mitzvah: June 1, 2025 Well, that was one full bat mitzvah day. We kicked things off at 2 o’clock at the Lodzer Centre with some family photos. First on deck was Ali; ready, excited, and all bubbles and smiles. It was clear right away she’s a dancer. We wandered the synagogue looking for cool spots to shoot, and she lit up every photo.  Soon we met up with the rest of the gang, one sister, one mother, one father, and kept the session rolling. Eventually grandparents and extended family joined in, just in time for the ceremony.  The one and only Arlene Moshe was waiting to take a few photos with the Torah before we got started. Inside we went, and Ali absolutely shone. She read beautifully, made everyone proud, and brought real heart to the ceremony.  From there, it was off to Factory Lounge where Magen Boys was setting up. Matan was on the mic, so I knew this party was going to explode in the best way. Schmoozing, hora, heartfelt speeches, dancing, more dancing, and nonstop good vibes.  Ali stayed all smiles from start to finish. Her friends spoke with such love, her parents beamed, and she closed it all […]

Lennie’s Bat Mitzvah: May 31, 2025 Well, that was one spectacular morning with a beautiful family—four gorgeous women and one handsome dude. Dad’s outnumbered, but he’s holding his own. The kids were awesome.  Lennie and I wandered around Avenue and Lawrence, where Tutto Pronto Restaurant, our mitzvah location, next to my beloved Bagel World, is located.  We snapped photos in unexpected places, and somehow every shot just worked.  Eventually the kids joined in, then the parents, and suddenly we had a whole crew; grandparents, cousins, etc.  There was plenty of laughter, hooting, hollering, and (organized) chaos, but we got what we came for: some truly spectacular family photos.  We walked back up to the restaurant for a quick mitzvah rehearsal. Mel, one of my favourite cantors and an always-welcome sight, was waiting for us with the Torah. First time I’d seen him this year, and as always, it was a delight.  The ceremony took place outside, warmed by spring heaters. It was beautiful. Candy flew through the air, grandparents beamed, and everything unfolded just as it should.  Lunch followed, in this Italian-style gem, highly recommend. After lunch, a bit more fun with the kids, and that was a wrap.  Mazel tov, guys. This is the […]

Talia’s Bat Mitzvah: May 31, 2025 That was such a fun night. Talia’s bat mitzvah was held at a studio I’d never been to before—Motorista Studio off Laird. Totally unassuming from the outside, but inside it was pure vibe. Dark, intriguing, and full of photographic potential, even if it made me work for the light.  I took Talia outside for a quick shoot. Industrial, chic, not my usual trees-and-flowers scene, but very cool in its own way. We added the rest of the family, wrapped it up outside, and headed in for the main event.  The night kicked off with a beautiful Havdalah ceremony led by the one and only Arlene Moshe. She brings charisma, warmth, and an angelic voice every time. It was a heartfelt and moving start to the celebration.  Then came the party. And what a party. Dave Monaco from Magen Boys was on the mic, which meant we were in for a ride. He delivered, as always. Limbo, hora, amazing speeches, dancing, food, fun—it was all there, and the party continued late into the night.  Mazel tov, guys, that was fantastic.   The Story of Talia’s Bat Mitzvah: Selected Photos: HERE All the Photos: HERE   •Clothing (Mitzvah): JJ House •Shoes (Mitzvah): […]

Asher & Bobby’s B’nei Mitzvah Rehearsal: May 26, 2025 A double feature at Beth Tzedec made even better by a picture-perfect early summer afternoon. This mitzvah rehearsal had it all, two amazing families, one Torah, and the best kind of chaos. Asher and I kicked things off with a quiet wander, just the two of us, before we brought in his fantastic family for some joyful group shots. Then came the great mitzvah kid handoff and we grabbed a few frames of both boys together before Bobby took centre stage. We explored the grounds as the sunlight got all cinematic on us, and squeezed in a few sibling and grandparent pictures before calling it a wrap outdoors. Back inside, we made a final stop in the sanctuary for Torah photos on the bimah. The day was long, the smiles were real, and the boys were absolute champs. Brody’s Bar Mitzvah: May 24, 2025 What an amazing bar mitzvah at Grace last night. Classic Toronto spring-into-summer weather tried to slow us down, but didn’t stop us from finding some great outdoor photo spots. Brody and I went on a little walkabout hunting for cool locations, and found them. Then we photographed the rest of the family outside, inside, and all around Grace. The rain came and went, so did we, but we got what we came for.  After wrapping up the extended family portraits, we headed in for a fabulous mitzvah ceremony and party. Moshe Saadon was on hand, delivering his signature warm, inclusive service. Grace glowed with that gorgeous natural light it’s known for, casting everyone in an angelic shine. Vince on guitar kicked off a lively hora before we all settled into a delicious Toban dinner.  The vibe was high, lots of schmoozing, laughing, and joyful chaos. Brody was happy (and probably a little relieved) to have the ceremony behind him, and he soaked up every minute of the night. Brooke’s Bat Mitzvah Rehearsal & Party I headed down to Boston to photograph a friends Bat Mitzvah. Brooke’s simcha was on a Saturday, coinciding with a full-blown Boston-holiday-birthday-baseball-weekend for the family, so the timing worked out perfectly, and I had my camera on hand. We met at the stunning Temple Beth Elohim in the morning. We crossed our fingers for no rain, and our prayers were answered. I had never been to this temple before, and it blew me away. Huge windows, a peaceful courtyard, perfect light, and a gorgeous Bat Mitzvah girl.  Brooke and I walked and talked and had a great time. Add in two seasoned brothers who had their own mitzvahs a few years back, plus parents and eventually extended family, and it turned into one big portrait session outside the temple. Since it was Saturday, no photography was allowed during the ceremony, so I packed up and spent the afternoon with my own family before gearing up for the evening celebration. At 5 o’clock we met at the Archer Hotel in Burlington , a gorgeous boutique with thoughtful design and a touch of “Modernitas cum spiritu historiae“. I took Brooke around for some portraits before the […]

Mira’s Bat Mitzvah Rehearsal I hadn’t been back to Darchei Noam in a while, and it looks like they’ve built some new townhouses across the street. Naturally, that became our photography backdrop for the afternoon. I took Mira by the hand and we ‘Crossed the Rubicon’ to kick off our photo adventure. The goal? Gorgeous and stunning portraits, and Mira delivered. We eventually brought in her sister and parents, both seasoned veterans, before heading upstairs to the sanctuary at Darchei Noam. We grabbed some family photos in the beautiful space before taking out the Torah for the mitzvah rehearsal and more photos. Good job guys, I’m sure Saturday it will be a blast. Sienna’s Bat Mitzvah Rehearsal I had a great time with Sienna at Holy Blossom for her Bat Mitzvah rehearsal. I love this location. Holy Blossom is bright, blue, warm, and just plain fun to photograph in. There are so many unique backdrops and levels to explore. I could come back two or three times and never shoot the same background twice, it’s that diverse. Sienna and I did a little wandering around the grounds. It’s that funny time of year when spring is pretending to be summer, so the weather is a toss-up, but we lucked out with sunshine and warmth. We started with portraits on the second and third floors, then brought in some siblings and parents, and finally grandparents. Everyone was in a great mood, and the photos definitely show it. We wrapped up in the sanctuary with some shots by the Torah, and now the countdown is on for the big day Saturday. Mazel Tov, everyone. You’re going to have an amazing time.   All the Photos: HERE

Ayla’s Bat Mitzvah Rehearsal & Party: May 6 & 10, 2025 Ayla and I had a fantastic little photo shoot at Adath Israel — her bat mitzvah rehearsal session. The weather was spectacular, and we met early in the day, so everything was bright and beautiful. I absolutely love this synagogue for photography. We wandered around, chatted, snapped photos, and soaked up the sunshine. Add some siblings and parents into the mix, and we were set. Ella’s grandparents were on deck too, rounding out the crew nicely. We wrapped up portraits before heading into the sanctuary for some Torah shots. Way to go, Ayla — you were amazing. Now we wait for the big party Saturday night. I met back up with the family at the Novotel in North York. Ayla was mitzvah-ready and geared up for some awesome photos. From the hotel, we spotted the park below and figured it’d be the perfect spot. Off we went, in search of cool backdrops, and what followed was basically a photo safari, with extended family joining in on the fun. Much laughter, lots of love, and before we knew it, it was party time. Darryn from PURE Entertainment was on top […]

Kai’s Bar Mitzvah Rehearsal: May 8, 2025 That was quite a rehearsal at Temple Sinai. A lovely, boisterous family; four kids, parents, and a couple of grandparents. Just balls of energy. I took Kai outside into the garden for his personal photo session, as I tend to do. This kid was sharp, red hair on fire, suit cut to perfection, total style.  Little siblings were keeping tabs on us, but everything flowed smoothly. We added parents and kids into the mix.  and a bit of manageable chaos ensued.  [Side note; In all my photography adventures, there is always a bit of organic chaos to manage and document. This was one of those times. So many kids, so much personality, lots of laughter and giggles, but somehow everything finds its place, and at the end of it all, everyone just had a good time.  Maybe a little Photoshop here and there, but that’s beside the point. The process was a blast, and the results speak for themselves.] Moving on…  We wrapped up outside with family portraits, then headed in for some Torah and group photos. Great day, beautiful weather, and a whole lot of personality. Bring on the Saturday mitzvah. Mazel […]

Zachary and I wandered a bit, he showed me his best angles, and we just had a blast.  Enter two siblings and two parents, and this whole little photo shoot really came to life. A few grandparents and cousins joined us toward the end, and we wrapped up portraits in style.  Then it was time to head inside for some Torah shots. Sadie’s Bat Mitzvah Rehearsal: April 29, 2025 What a fantastic rehearsal at one of my all-time favourite synagogues in Toronto, Holy Blossom. The light in that place is just dreamy, and there are endless nooks and crannies for great photo ops. Honestly, if synagogues gave out frequent flyer points, I’d be platinum here by now.  Sadie was an absolute delight. This was technically our second shoot together though she was just a tiny human the first time and said that she didn’t remember me (I’ll let it slide). I remember her though!  We started with a little wandering outside, because when spring gives you sunshine, you take it, then headed inside to scout some special spots for photos. Throw in the family, some photogenic grandparents, and boom: the perfect pre-mitzvah rehearsal shoot.  We wrapped things up with the classic Torah shots in the sanctuary, because no bat mitzvah rehearsal is complete without one good “Torah” moment, and called it a day.  Mazel Tov, team Sadie! Yael’s Bat Mitzvah: April 26, 2025 What a fantastic rehearsal with Yael! A true mitzvah photography pro by now, this wasn’t her first rodeo, thanks to her two older brothers paving the way. She’d seen it all, done it all, and knew just how to strike that perfect Torah pose. We met at Adath Israel on a glorious Spring afternoon, prime time for photos, fun, and a little grandparent schmoozing. Once the official rehearsal wrapped, we did the classic Torah pics (because it’s not a rehearsal without them), then packed it up and headed into the sunshine. Yael was in top form: megawatt smile, twinkle-in-the-eye energy. Seriously, how could the photos not be amazing?  We got the full cast: brothers, parents, grandparents, both sides, naturally. A picture-perfect mitzvah crew.  Fast forward three days, and we’re living it up at Richmond Hill Country Club for a lunchtime celebration that checked every box: exquisite, delicious, and very Spring-in-the-air-ish. Michelle’s Bat Mitzvah: April 19, 2025 Michelle’s bat mitzvah, what can I say? Michelle and I snuck away for a little photo walk, just the two of us (well, almost… her siblings were full-on spies, popping up like secret agents). Didn’t slow us down a bit. Eventually, the whole family joined in, and we rolled into some grandparent and cousin portraits before the real fun began.  And then, party time.  Inside we went, just as guests started to arrive. Michelle was all giggles and squeals, absolutely lighting up as each friend walked through the door. A little mingling, the classic hora (it’s not official till someone’s in the chair), heartfelt speeches, some delicious food, the Party Crew brought. the. house. down. Games, dancing, music, mayhem; the best kind.  From one epic moment to the next: a lovely candle lighting turned into a conga line, which somehow turned into a limbo showdown. Nonstop energy.  Such a joy to be part of it all. Mazel Tov Michelle, way to go.   […]

Isaac’s Bar Mitzvah Rehearsal: April 6, 2025 It was such a pleasure to be back at the BAYT — it’s been quite a while since I photographed there. I think the last time may have been pre-Covid, which feels like a whole other lifetime.  I met Isaac and his lovely family on a bright and breezy Toronto spring Sunday, you know, the kind of spring where the sun says “yes” but the wind still says “not so fast.” What was meant to be a quick little photo shoot and rehearsal turned into something much bigger (in the best way).  Isaac was in fine form, we wandered around the synagogue, chatting and snapping photos as we went. Just easy and fun. Then his brothers joined in, slightly surprised by the whole “spring” temperature situation, but they powered through with style and good humour. The parents? Totally composed and on point, like seasoned photo pros.  Eventually we headed back inside, where we were greeted by what felt like a small village, a big, beautiful extended family full of kids, parents, and lots of energy. Honestly, a photographer’s dream.  The BAYT is a joy to shoot in when it’s quiet, it turns into […]

Maddie & Charlie B’nei Mitzvah: April 5, 2025 Well, this was one of those classic Toronto spring mornings, a little drizzle, a lot of heart. The rain made a cameo, but it didn’t stop us from having an absolutely epic B’nei Mitzvah celebration.  I met the family bright and early at Habonim, and we jumped right into the action. I took Maddie for a little stroll, not the usual outdoor walkabout thanks to the weather being Toronto-ish, but we made it work indoors, and it was perfect. Then we did a little switcheroo, bringing in Charlie for some solo shots, followed by parents, grandparents, and the whole fabulous crew for a wonderfully cozy photo session.  We wrapped up the portraits in the foyer, then headed into the sanctuary where the real magic happened. These kids, naturals. Full of grace, charm, and that low-key sparkle that makes everyone smile. The grandparents were glowing, the family beaming, pride levels were rising.  As always at Habonim, the ceremony was a musical delight, Josh on guitar bringing all the good vibes, and the Cantor Lee and Rabbi Audrey harmonizing like a dream.  Once the ceremony wrapped, it was time for some serious schmoozing, a […]

Benji’s Bar Mitzvah Rehearsal: April 4, 2025 What a lovely spring afternoon at Temple Sholom — the sun was out, the vibes were good, and Benji was all smiles. Some of those smiles were gently coaxed by his sister and parents, and some were that classic teenage grin he’s been perfecting over the years, both equally fantastic.  We wandered around outside in the sunshine, chatting about baseball and snapping photos while Benji brought the charm. Such a sweet kid. Then his sister jumped in and the cuteness levels pretty much doubled.  Eventually the rest of the crew joined, parents, grandparents, a sprinkle of extended family, and we wrapped up the portraits with all the love and laughter you’d hope for.  It was time to head into the sanctuary for the main rehearsal event: photos with the Torah.  Beth Shalom never fails to impress, it’s got that big, beautiful expanse that makes every shot feel epic. Bayview Golf & Country Club is usually a photographer’s playground, but with the rain calling the shots, we found ourselves cozied up inside this gorgeous venue instead. No complaints, though—it made for some pretty special moments. Fun fact—Abigail’s aunt is my good friend and colleague Justine, who often finds herself behind the camera photographing with me. She gave me the inside scoop that Abigail was an absolute gem, and that was no exaggeration.  We had a blast wandering inside and out, doing our photo thing, capturing moments before reuniting with the rest of the family for a grand portrait session. Holy Blossom is hands-down one of my favourite synagogues to shoot in Toronto. It’s a photographer’s paradise—soaring architecture, gorgeous natural light, and colours that beg to be captured. Ezra was good to go on both occasions and enjoyed the festivities. The party at The Bubble [where I’ve never been before] was fun. Asher’s Bar Mitzvah Rehearsal: March 24, 2025 It was special to be back in this synagogue, the Narayever, I have not been here in a while but I always like it. Interesting of course the photograph on such a snowy day in Toronto, just one of those years. Asher was in excellent form for this afternoon’s photo shoot, we wandered around the synagogue and into the park across the street.
