Yael’s Bat Mitzvah: January 14, 2017 My first Bat Mitzvah of the year turned out to be a spectacular event filled with joy, love, fun, music, and dance. I first met this family two years ago when I photographed Elysha’s Bat Mitzvah, and it was a pleasure to see them again for Yael’s. We started out at the house with a pre-mitzvah shoot, just the fam’ having fun. Then off to Adath Israel for the ceremony, and finally the party led by the always-reliable Bounce Entertainment. Jackson’s Bar Mitzvah: December 8 & 10, 2016 Jackson’s Bar Mitzvah took place over the entire week, starting on Monday with a fantastic and fun rehearsal, the ceremony and luncheon on Thursday morning, and a wicked party on Saturday night. He is a pretty cool kid who knows just how to hang out, kid around, and have fun. He also comes from a pretty cool and laid-back family. It was a joy to photograph Jackson and his sister Veronica having just a wildly fun time leading up to the Saturday night, pretty much all just giggles and laughs. Jules’ Bar Mitzvah: Nov 24 & Dec 3 I had the pleasure of photographing Jules and his family last weekend, a relationship we have developed that started a few months back before the snow. I met this amazing family in the park for a pre-mitzvah photoshoot, and finally got to finish everything off at the rehearsal and bar mitzvah party last weekend. I really enjoyed photographing this family, Jules and his sister are wonderful, playful, funny, and a joy to engage with. The family has always been warm and inviting and this was obviously evident by the incredible response they received from the guests last weekend at the party. Jules, you were fantastic. Dylan’s Bar Mitzvah: November 19, 2016 I photographed Dylan’s rehearsal and ceremony / party last week at Adath Israel. This group of four brothers are all jokes and levity, just as brothers should be. Dylan is the last on the list to come of age so there was no holding back. After the ceremony, all seriousness was put aside. The DJ this night was Q Productions and really rocked the house. I really liked this party, it had all the props; games aplenty, a mechanical bull dressed like a surf-board for the ‘beach’ theme, card tables, hoops, virtual reality googles, the usual teen vices. This was our largest group, around 80 hikers. 2016 was delightfully unique as we welcomed ParaTrek, a company which supports and provides hikes for physically disabled hikers. He is one smooth dude; the rehearsal was just Sasha and Zoe at Beth Torah casually running through what was to be a fabulous service on Saturday evening. The party was the perfect combination; intimate in feel and big on spirit. This boy has moves, Sasha and his posse tearing it up. As usual, Magen Boys raised the roof on the occasion, the decor looked stunning thanks to Trevor Florence Designs, and the inimitable Fern Cohen brought the whole affair together seamlessly. From the portrait photoshoot near The Factory to the mitzvah ceremony and finally the celebration, it was a roller-coaster ride of an event. These two brothers were made for photos, sharp as they come in those suits. Rabbi Polansky always provides an inclusive and warm service, and Sole Power rocked the night away. Josh’s Bar Mitzvah: Sept 4, 2016 This was a fantastic rehearsal, ceremony, and party over the weekend. Josh, brothers Jonah and Jeremy, and parents Sharon and Rob were all on hand for the festivities. Josh was amazing, long Saturday service and a shorter Sunday Rosh Chodesh service. All in all, a great job. I photographed the rehearsal on the Thursday when we all got to slow things down for the evening before the busy weekend. And on Sunday, Rabbi Kaplan, I like this guy. He charismatically brings warmth to his congregation at Chabad Flamingo, great to see. The party at e-Zone was nothing but fun. I always like the ‘whirlyball’ to get things.. whirly-ing. Thanks for having us there to photograph, it made my last weekend before the school year. Max’s Bar Mitzvah: June 25, 2016 Rehearsal: 23 June / Friday night dinner: 24 June / Ceremony: 25 June / Party: 26 June So finally the day arrived for my nephew’s Bar Mitzvah. My family decided I was not to be the photographer for this celebration as I was going to be in some of the pictures, however I was able to shoot the rehearsal. As for the portraits and party, Ben and Gwen stepped up to the plate. Max was amazing. I have watched my nephew grow from a baby to a Bar Mitzvah. It’s not often one hears the ‘Voice of God’ during the bar mitzvah portion… but as anyone who was there can attest, we did. All speeches were eloquent and funny, Steve rose to the occasion nicely, and the weekend got off to a running start. Zach’s Bar Mitzvah: May 7, 2016 This was a fantastic rehearsal and party, these two boys were in fine form for both. Both pretty cool kids, I enjoyed photographing the family. The Factory is always a cool place for a party, the right amount of ‘street’ and ‘hip’, perfect for a rockin’ night. The ice cream truck was the proverbial ‘icing on the cake’.
