Tal’s Bar Mitzvah Rehearsal: Nov 2, 2017 Tal’s bar mitzvah rehearsal took place at the beautiful Pride of Israel Synagogue. This was my first time at this synagogue and it was quite a special place to shoot. I loved the portraits down the aisle.  Tal was in good spirits, a little nervous but that would clear up in a day, just in time for the Saturday main event I’m sure.  The whole family was up for some photo fun, and we had a great time. Thanks for having me photograph you guys, mazal tov.   The Story of the Day HERE All Photos HERE

Caleb & Rowan’s B’nai Mitzvah: Nov 2, 2017 This was a fantastic morning spent at Caleb & Rowan’s house celebrating and photographing their B’nai Mitzvah. What a lovely family, we had a great time shooting some portraits before joining Moshe for the service. Moshe is the cantor for the Beach Synagogue and officiates a wonderful all-inclusive ceremony… and he is just an all-around nice guy. The kids were great, performed well, and entered manhood in style. Of course lunch would have to be delicious and it was.  Thanks for having me out.  Take care guys.   The Story of the B’nai Mitzvah HERE All Photos HERE   Cantor: Moshe Sadan Photographer: Jonni Super Caterer: Sonny Langer Flowers: Mimi & Ry

Isabel’s Bat Mitzvah: Oct 29, 2017 This was one amazing party at the Eglinton Grand on a beautiful Sunday evening in October. I’ve known Isabel’s dad for many years now through music and such, but it was really great to get to know the family this time around. The Eglinton is a special place to have a party; a huge room with fantastic character and flair, and the Magen Boys rocking the house.  The Eglinton also gave us opportunity to shoot on the street, which adds something unique to the night.  Isabel is quite a character; confident and good humoured.  We had a wonderful rehearsal at Beth Sholom just as we did the party… and this party was a special one for me as some of my friends were there too.  Thanks for having me photograph you guys, looking forward to the next one. Elan’s Bar Mitzvah: 25-29 Oct, 2017 Photographed by Ben Right from the get go I could tell this was not going to be your average 3 day family photo shoot.  With an off the wall father, fantastic bar mitzvah boy, amazing brother and sister, and a mom that holds the entire thing together, the Goldberg’s could really have a TV show to call their own.  The 3 day shoot included the rehearsal and ceremony at Temple Sinai, and party with the Magen Boys at the infamous E-Zone.  By the end of it all, I felt like I was part of the family.  I must admit, it felt a little weird that I wasn’t going to be seeing them again the next day.  High energy from day one till the end; laughs, smiles and good times had by all.  Thanks for letting me be part of the family, if only for 3 days.    The Story of Elan’s Mitzvah HERE All Photos HERE   •Cake: Cakes by Robert •Clothing (Mitzvah): Ed‘s Fine Imports •Shoes (Mitzvah): Browns •Clothing (Mom): The Bay •Clothing (Dad): Ed’s Fine Imports •DJ Entertainment: Magen Boys •Invitations: Zazzle.ca •Photographer: Ben Gaum •Specialty Food: Desserts by Sonny Langers   •Venue: Temple Sinai and EZone •Caterer: […]

Seth’s Bar Mitzvah: Oct 26, 2017 Photographed by BEN Sometimes a clients attention to detail can be tricky when photographing an event, however in this case, Seth’s mom was an absolute artist and a pleasure to work with.  The entire family was cool, laid back, and up for any combination of photos I wanted to try.  Rehearsal and ceremony were officiated by the wonderful Rabbi Yossi Sapirman, at the Beth Torah which has quickly risen to the top of my list of amazing places to shoot.  Its a fantastic venue with beautiful lighting and even better people to work with.  The post-ceremony luncheon was adorned with amazing details and one of the most spectacular buffets I have ever photographed, eventually enjoyed by all.  Thanks for having me join the party.   The Story of the Bar Mitzvah HERE All Photos HERE   •Makeup: Felicia McCabe •Hair: Melba at Jalouse Hair    •Photographer: Ben Gaum     •Specialty Food: Barista – Eventful      •Venue: Beth Torah •Caterer: Ta’am Tov Catering •Rabbi: Yossi Sapirman •Music: Charlie Finlay Jazz Trio

Gabe’s Bar Mitzvah: Oct 21, 2017 Photographed by Ben It wasn’t until I saw the grandfather of the Bar Mitzvah boy sit down at the piano to rehearse just before the ceremony that I realized this family had been life long friends with my family growing up.  I had already had such a fantastic time with them during the rehearsal shoot that the family connection made the night that much more fun.  The party took place at the Faculty Club at U of T.  It’s a venue I had never photographed at before but the room impressed me as I walked through the front door.  The old school feel of the space ended up being a perfect match for the new school energy of the party goers.  A fantastic time was had by all as everybody partied into the night with huge smiles on their faces.  So much fun!!!   The Story of the Bar Mitzvah HERE All Photos HERE

Adam’s Bar Mitzvah: October 7 & 8, 2017 Adam’s Bar Mitzvah took place at the stunning Maple Downs Country Club in Richmond Hill. The rehearsal the day before was beautiful and the ceremony on the Sunday even more spectacular. You can’t go wrong photographing at this venue; green everywhere in early October. I’ve known Adam’s parents for 20 years and it was great to reconnect with them. Sunday started with Adam and me walking around the club, photographing and having fun, before we eventually met up with the family and headed into the ceremony; Adam was fantastic, enough said.  The tennis themed lunch was delicious, the amazing Kenny Munshaw holding down the musical end, and everything tied together beautifully by Karen Garscadden from Karen G Events.  So good to see you guys after so many years, definitely looking forward to the next one.   The Story of Adam’s Bar Mitzvah HERE Tali’s Selected Photos HERE All Photos HERE   Event planner – Karen G Events Adams outfit and shoes – North Boys Music (piano) – Kenny Munshaw Decor – Brittany from Decor and More Cake – Baked with Joy  Venue – Maple Downs Golf Club  Photographer – Jonni Super

Jared’s Bar Mitzvah: Sept 5 & 10, 2017 Jonni: I photographed Jared’s bar mitzvah rehearsal  at the wonderful Beth Torah synagogue. I love shooting here during the day, the light is fantastic and the room is warm. These guys were all about jubilant displays of affection with no holds barred. We finished up at the synagogue and then went to the park to wrap it up. I was done and Ben took over to photograph the luncheon. Ben: I love these types of celebrations!  Instead of a big party, they decided to have their closest family and loved ones over for a beautiful catered brunch at their home for the afternoon.  The totally relaxed, unscripted and mutual love for everyone in the room is always such a pleasure to photograph.   The Story of the Mitzvah HERE All Photos HERE

Shooting inside the sanctuary during the day is always a pleasure, warm light streaming in through the windows creates a glow like no other.  Cody was great; outgoing and dignified.  He recited his portion eloquently and with enthusiasm. There seemed to be no shortage of the same enthusiasm from his group of friends in the back row, enthusiastically throwing candy at the appropriate time… with much enthusiasm 😉  What followed was a delicious luncheon and heartfelt speeches from all. Max’s Bar Mitzvah: August 21, 2017 Well this was a lovely way to spend a Monday morning. I met Max and his parents at the Kehila Centre for a truly special Bar Mitzvah. We met early in the morning, managed to get some fantastic pictures in the garden before things got crazy… mitzvah style. Inside, the gorgeous chapel at synagogue was the perfect backdrop for this celebration. I love photographing here, so bright and spacious. Max did a great job reading from the Torah and performing just as he should.  A delicious lunch and lively hora followed.  I really love this family, so warm and giving, totally evident by what their guests and friends had to say about them. My only regret, I may not get to see them until Max’s wedding… quite a few years away. 😉   The Story of the Day HERE All photos HERE

Jonah’s Bar Mitzvah: August 7, 2017 Jonah’s bar mitzvah morning started out beautifully. The family has a wonderful little roundabout near the home which was the perfect backdrop for photos. We caught the best morning light, and then it was off to the Beth Emeth Synagogue for a quick rehearsal followed by the ceremony. Jonah was fantastic; read his portion beautifully and played the part just like the young adult he has become. Brunch was delicious and plentiful, and the dancing was boisterous and lively, all thanks to an amazing one-man-band. This was also the first time I saw someone balance a chair on the chin while dancing.  Thanks for having me photograph you all, it was a pleasure. Nicole’s Bat Mitzvah: June 25, 2017 This was my last mitzvah of the season before summer camp and wedding season, and it was the perfect way to end the year. From the first photograph of the night so the last limbo, there was nothing too crazy or too wild which would not be tried. Nicole was amazing, spoke beautifully and carried the night with such grace. We took fantastic pictures outside before the party but she was just too anxious to see her friends so we cut it short, but who would’ve thought halfway through the evening, the fire alarm went off and we were all outside again. Hasn’t happened to me before but it made for a wonderful opportunity for Bounce Entertainment to bring out their two drummers and entertain the crowd as the sun set. Stunning! Fire alarm over, it was back inside to finish off the night in style.  This is such a warm South African family, (being South African myself, I feel I’m an authority and my opinion is valid), and these guys really hit a home run.  An wonderful party for an amazing young woman.   The story of the day HERE All Photos HERE

Jack’s Bar Mitzvah: June 25, 2017 I met Jack and his family for a wonderful rehearsal and ceremony/lunch at Beth Tzedec Synagogue on Bathurst. So much fun, this is a lovely bunch. We met many months ago to discuss the events and things turned out fabulously.    Jack and his sister Kayla are delightful; joking, playing and generally carrying on like a pair of best friends. Jack is pretty smooth and dare I say tall for a 13-year-old… I’ve never met anyone with size 16 shoes.  I love photographing in the synagogue, it is so bright and offers so much in the way of interesting angles and perspectives. Love the silhouettes here that present themselves waiting to be captured. This was no exception and it did not disappoint. As usual, Beth Tzedec offers up a delicious brunch and the DJ on site, Phoenix, was remarkably good. Thanks guys, I hope you love the photos as I do.     The Story of the Day HERE All Photos HERE

Ayla’s Bat Mitzvah: June 18, 2017 This is one laid-back South African family that I was very happy to photograph (being South African myself) at The Warehouse a few weeks back. Very chilled and not at all flustered, these beautiful sisters, and there are four of them, stole the show. Bat mitzvah girl was dashing and elegant in her evening dress. It was so nice to hear the speeches that show the importance of family and everyone getting along so well together. I’m sure this is one fun Friday night around the dinner table. Magen Boys once again, raised the roof, with a special appearance of the Chief Magen himself, and these kids did party well into the night.  Loved the drummer, very cool… and the limbo was the lowest I’ve ever seen at a party, and I’ve seen quite a few.  Thanks for the great night.   All Photos HERE The Story of the Day HERE   •Audio-Visual: Magen Boys •Clothing (Mitzvah): K.
